EyePay [AR Glasses Prototype]

🏅 Golden Glasses Award for Best Creativity – Huawei Smart Glasses Development Bootcamp

📝 Overview:
The EyePay project marks my first contact with AR glasses. I worked with a group of Singaporean and German students from different disciplines to create an AR glasses prototype using a combination of natural eye-gaze and head motion for seamless mobile payment, in both physical and online shopping contexts.

🎨 Roles:
Team Leader:
1️⃣ Designed the full heads-up interaction flow for EyePay, incorporating the eye-gaze and head gesture of the user to select the source and confirm the action of payment.
2️⃣ Implemented a proof-of-concept payment application using Unity on the Vuxiz Blade 2.
3️⃣ Created a demonstration video illustrating the user interface and interaction of EyePay in both physical and online shopping contexts using iMovie.

💻 Extra Miles:
1️⃣ Round-the-Clock Hybrid Collaboration:
My team consisted of three onsite Singaporean students and one remote German student. I worked during the daytime with the onsite Singaporean students on the proof-of-concept prototype, in the afternoon with the remote German industrial designer on interaction design and presentation preparation, and at night ideating and filming the demonstration video, for the week-long competition.

💡 Self-Learnt Skills:
1️⃣ Interaction Design: Learned from the remote German design student interaction design principles, such as task analysis, in two days to refine the user experience and ensure intuitive navigation.
2️⃣ Smart Glasses Development: Learned how to work with the Vuforia AR engine in Unity within one week, allowing me to integrate augmented reality features into the smart glasses payment prototype.

💰 Results:
1️⃣ Award Recognition: EyePay was awarded the Golden Glasses Award for Best Creativity at the Huawei Smart Glasses Development Bootcamp for its innovative application of heads-up computing for mobile payment solutions, amongst the 10+ participating teams from Singapore, China, and Germany.
2️⃣ Research Internship: My presentation and design of EyePay impressed the director of the NUS-HCI Lab, Professor Zhao Shengdong, who is the organizer of the competition, earning me the chance to intern at his lab post-competition.
