A-plus Playground [Business Proposal]

Project type

Business Proposal

Date

Dec 2022 - Oct 2023

Location

Singapore

Role

Intern -> Product Manager (Contract)

🌈 First attempt at commercialising the vision of heads-up computing, building a surprising cultural bridge between Singapore and Japan.

This business plan was devised during my first ever internship, for a Japanese e-learning start-up called A-plus. I was entrusted by the CEO to conduct market research in the English e-learning market and propose new formats of e-learning classes for the start-up.

Hence, "A-plus Playground" was born, an immersive language learning platform that leverages VR technology to bridge the gap between beginners and experts, making language acquisition both effective and enjoyable.

Pleased by the direction of the proposal, the CEO appointed me to present our newest business plan to our largest customer, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT), who gave commendations for the proposed plan, though no direct financial investment was provided as a result.

After my internship ended, I was given a contract to implement a desktop mock-up of "A-plus Playground" on the gaming platform Fortnite, for a language exchange session at the Kasugai City 80th Anniversary Event in Japan. The contract required me to include historic architectural landmarks of Kasugai, Aichi, Japan, into the game, and create a place where virtual characters can meet online.

With the help of another architecture student in NUS, we successfully built a custom Fornite map with the famous Aichi Tunnel and local round sheds included inside, alongside other custom-made socializing spots. It was used as the hosting place for the inaugural language exchange session for A-plus where Singaporean and Japanese student introduced their hometowns to each other and played tag online. The event was featured by a local news outlet, titled "Introducing the Charms of Kasugai in English - Online Exchange between Junior and High School Students and Singaporean Student".

It was a wonderful experience being introduced to local attractions by Ito-san and Mura-san from the local junior and high schools, and learning about the top-notch pencils from Kasugai city shared by the elderly participants.

P.S. Sorry Ito-san that you tried to kill me but failed, when you could not outrun me during the online tag. I built the map, I know where to find the guns :)
